Tatum Brown help Celtics overcome Doncics triple-double in 119-110 win over Mavs.
Jayson Tatum made five 3-pointers and scored 32 points and the Boston Celtics overcame Luka Doncic's triple-double Tuesday night in a 119-110 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Boston. Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the way for the Celtics (37-27), who won their fourth straight game and moved into a tie with the Philadelphia 76ers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Doncic had 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the Mavericks (30-34), who have lost three straight games and fell to seventh place in the Western Conference. It was Doncic's 45th triple-double of the season, tying him with Wilt Chamberlain for second-most in NBA history through a player's first five seasons.
The Celtics led by just five points at halftime, but they opened up a 15-point lead in the third quarter and never looked back. Tatum and Brown combined for 17 points in the third quarter, and the Celtics held the Mavericks to just 17.6% shooting from the field in the period.
The Mavericks cut the lead to seven points in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics made their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Tatum was 10-of-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, and the Celtics made 21 of 24 free throws in the game.
